Technology Department

Burbank School District 111 Community, Staff, and Students:

As you may be aware, I assumed the role of Technology Director at District 111 on January 1, 2012.  I would like to thank all of you for welcoming me into your school district and giving me this great opportunity.

Over the course of three weeks, we have worked to assess District 111’s current technology infrastructure.  Assessing a district as large as ours in three weeks is by no means a small feat and could never have been done without the dedication and support of our Technology Team Members.   The overall results of the assessment were useful in prioritizing future projects.  These projects include the replacement of equipment as well as creating a system that is more adaptive and low risk, which will result in lower operating costs.

We have begun to make our technology infrastructure more agile, flexible, and efficient.  The district is now looking at technology  from a strategic perspective.  By moving into a strategic technology infrastructure, we are better able to control the speed of change and increase our predictability.  This approach will help create a progressive learning environment in which our students can excel.

These changes, which will begin the spring of 2012, will be made systematically and communicated with all staff members.  Below is a snapshot of upcoming projects:

  • Spring 2012 – 21st Century Classroom pilot

  • Summer 2012 – Implementation of new district wide fiber optic based wide area network (WAN)

  • Fall 2012 – Implementation of new virtualized data center

  • Winter 2012 – Implementation of improved wireless infrastructure to meet the growing needs of 21st Century learners

  • Winter 2012 – Creation and execution of a district wide technology replacement and obsolescence plan

We are dedicated to developing a strategic use of technology, optimizing resources, and reducing operational inefficiencies thus maximizing time to spend on educational technology, process management, and staff development.

Technology will now be utilized in Burbank School District 111 to support student learning in an engaged, educationally focused environment, and to provide students with dynamic learning opportunities!
