Why do students have to do the E-Learning activities if the ISBE has deemed these days ACT of GOD days?
The Illinois State Board of Education strongly encourages all school districts to provide learning opportunities to all students during these Act of God Days through whatever means possible. However, yes, since ISBE decided to designate these days as ACT of GOD days, the District is not able to count them as instructional days. We do strongly feel that we should afford our students the opportunity for continued learning experiences. To not make these activities available to our students would not be living our mission as educators.
It is ultimately up to our parents to decide if they want their children to participate in the E-Learning process. No student will be penalized for not participating.
I have questions about certain programs in the E-Learning plan and/or I am having trouble accessing some of the programs.
Please email your child’s teacher directly with questions. They will be able to answer them in a timely manner and hopefully fix or address any issue.
Are the school buildings and District Office open?
As with all businesses throughout the country, the District is allowing the Administration and secretarial support staff to work from home to minimize interaction. You may reach out to anyone at admin by email, or call and leave a message. All staff will check email and pick up phone messages throughout the day. We will respond to all inquiries as soon as we can.
Will IEP meetings still occur during this time?
Although special education IEP meetings usually do not occur during ACT of GOD days, so our special education administration is rescheduling meetings for the beginning of April. Video and/or audio conferencing for the meetings is a possibility. Parents who have IEP meetings scheduled will be contacted by their case managers with next steps.
Are there resources for helping my child understand COVID-19?
Yes, links are included here from the CDC and other organizations to guide discussion with children about COVID 19.
What happens to the lunch money that I already paid?
All existing lunch funds will be still be available when we return to school. As a reminder, students and families may pick up a breakfast and lunch daily at Tobin School from 8:00am to 10:00 am March 23rd through March 27th.
